On a snowy morning on the 10th December 2017, members and some friends boarded the train to Dublin for our monthly outing for some street and architecture photography.

Irish Hot Air Balloon Championships & Medieval Combat Tournament

On the last week of Septemper and first weekend in October 2017, we held our
monthly outing’s at the 47th Irish Hot Air Balloon Championships which took place in Loughrea County Galway and at the Claregalway Sheild Medieval Combat Tournament held in Claregalway Castle

Headshot Workshop

On the 18th October we held the clubs first Portrait/ Headshot work shop at Unlimited Fitness. The night was a great success. Members had the opportunity to experience what it was like to be to model as well as been the photographer on the night as we moved between different lighting set ups. Big thanks to Unlimited Fitness for providing us with the fantastic space.

August Outing “Friends of Merlin Woods”

Our August Outing was on  Sunday 27th August was held in  Merlin Woods. A photography walk led by Noel Barbour of the Friends of Merlin Woods in conjunction with natural Heritage Week called “NATURE THROUGH THE LENS”. The day started with Noel giving a short talk about Friends of Merlin Woods in their efforts to protect this area and the whole woodland so that we can retain all of the habitats within the Merlin Park Recreational and Amenity and what we might see and get to see in the Woods and Photograph in this wonderful place. Below are some images taken by members on the day.

Omey Horse Racing

 

The first outing of Solas Photography Club took place on the 25th July where Members meet for the day and went to Photograph the Omey Races (horse racing on the beach) on Omey Strand. The first race was due to Start at 1p.m. but the was delayed about 1 hour as the tide was late going out, a first according to the  organisers.  Omey is a tidal island located near Claddaghduff, a few miles from Clifden, on the western edge of Connemara. With up to nine races on the card and rain staying away for a few hours there was plenty  opportunities for some great  photographs and fun…
