Aoife O’Brien

Name:

Aoife O’Brien

What was your First Camera:

Now that I think of it : a little plastic thing I won in the Texaco school art competition … first digital a compact nikon borrowed from my folks when I went to New Zealand

How long have you been interested in Photography:

I was about to say since 2007 (the New Zealand trip) but actually, since 1990 when I got that first camera …

What does Photography mean to you:

It started off as a way to record moments, holidays, the seasons, plants and pets. Now it’s more about learning about the light and finding the best ways to capture the 3D world in 2D. The physics is a big part of it for me too.

What Camera Gear do you use (Camera’s,Lenses,Tripods,Filters,…Etc):

I’ve a second hand full-format body , and up until very recently just one lens, recently added a 50mm and already love it. Couple of ND filters and a great polariser filter (which I love but recently scratched). My tripod’s been broken for months but I don’t miss it much, it forces me to be more inventive…

Whats your favorite peice of camera gear and why?:

The polarising filter – it’s all in the physics …

Among the Gadgets and Lenses that you own, is there anything that you wish you had not bought and why:

Happy with what I have, don’t believe in buying gadgets until I absolutely know what to do with them…but if I’d cash I’d love a lighter body, I hate carrying heavy gear.

What tool’s do you use for Post Processing:

An old student copy of Lightroom and sometimes ICE or Photomatix for experimenting – All installed on a little second hand laptop that really has gone above and beyond the call of duty.

Whats your Favourite Image and why:

Photos of my family for purely sentimental reasons

Who’s work has influenced you the most:

Not educated enough yet to be influenced !
